It begins with a boy at Vashistha’s ashram who shoots the same arrow forty times because his shoulder is wrong on the release, and ends with a prince crossing the Sarayu in bark cloth, carrying nothing but a word his father gave and could not take back. Lakshman follows him into the forest not out of duty but out of love — a distinction that matters more than it seems. And Sita’s walk into exile is not acquiescence. It is the most deliberate act in the book.
