Privacy Policy

This policy explains what we collect when you use Decoding Spirit (https://decodingspirit.com) and how we use it. We keep this deliberately minimal: at present the site is a brand and books showcase, and the only personal information we ask for is your email address, if you choose to give it.

What we collect

Email address. If you subscribe to our newsletter, ask for new-post updates or join the courses waitlist, we store the email you submit so we can contact you. That is the only information those forms collect.

Usage data. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages are read and how the site performs. This is used to report readership in aggregate. Google Analytics uses browser identifiers and cookies. We also keep the most recent tagged X post in a first-party cookie for up to 30 days to measure visits, email signup requests and confirmations, and clicks to Amazon. A separate seven-day cookie links a five-letter confirmation to its signup in the same browser. We do not send your email address, hashed address or confirmation tokens to Google Analytics. Amazon clicks do not tell us whether you bought a book. You can clear or block cookies in your browser.

The five free letters

The five-letter series has a separate signup and confirmation step. We use your email address only to deliver the requested series and handle replies. Signing up does not enroll you in an ongoing newsletter or the children’s updates.

Google Apps Script stores your address, consent and delivery status, and sends the letters through our Google account. Unconfirmed requests expire after seven days. Unsubscribing stops the series and removes your address from its delivery record. Completed delivery records are cleared of your address within 90 days. We retain a hashed address and status to prevent accidental repeat enrollment. Copies of correspondence may remain in our email account; contact us to request deletion.

What we do not collect

We do not take payments on this site and do not collect any payment or card details. Books are purchased on Amazon, under Amazon’s own terms and privacy policy.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the site: Google Firebase (hosting and storing signup emails), Google Analytics (usage measurement), and our email platform for sending newsletters. Each processes data on our behalf under its own terms.

Your choices

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can ask us to access or delete the email we hold for you at any time by writing to info@decodingspirit.com.

Changes

We may update this policy as the site grows — for example, when we begin selling books and courses directly. We will revise the date above when we do.
